5 of the most expensive hotels in South Africa - charging up to R140,000 a night for a suite

South Africa has some of the best hotels in the world, says Tamsin Mathews, product manager at Giltedge Africa, a luxury touring company.

“Ranging from rooms with the best views of Table Mountain, to relaxation in the Cape vineyards - South African hotels offer it all,” Mathews told Business Insider South Africa.

South Africa received a total of 15.5 million international tourists in 2016 - contributing 2.5% of the country’s GDP.

Mathews gave Business Insider South Africa a list of some of the most expensive hotels in South Africa (prices are per person, per night - the lower price is for out-of-season, and the higher for peak season).

The Silo (Cape Town) - from R4,790 to R10,893

South Africa’s most expensive hotel offers unparalleled views of the Cape Town harbour, V&A Waterfront and Table Mountain. The hotel has 28 rooms and access to the Zeitz Mocaa. The penthouse room is available for a cool R140,000 per night.

One & Only (Cape Town) - from R4,790 to R10,893
