Overcoming Our Adversity

We often say that "there is a purpose for everything". Am not disputing that, but I've heard people who blame God for their misfortune and I wonder if the quote above is right then why the blame? This is what I think, we can endure and overcome our adversity just by our conscious effort to keep trying and believing in God.
