Do It Yourself Solar Power? - Easy DIY Solar Panel Installation!

in #renewable5 years ago

JerryRigEverything has a video up on how to DIY solar panel installation on your roof. This is one of the quickest and simplest ways I've seen so far to set up a grid tied solar home system, from selecting a plan to design to actual installation and wiring until power generation. Actual tax savings and available options might vary based on where you live but the underlying concept is essentially the same.
In a grid tied system the grid acts as a battery so you don't need to buy any, saving you thousands in initial installation cost. Batteries are what cost the most in an off grid solar system. When you generate more than you need it goes in to the grid and adds up to your credit with the power company. When you need more than your panels generate you can pull from the grid. And your total energy bill will be offset by how much credit you have until the end of the billing cycle.
Link in video description contains actual math, breakeven period and cost calculation along with a bonus $250 discount for Tesla Solar if Tesla is available where you are at.
With almost half the planet in lockdown, we are seeing massive decrease in pollution levels for the first time in decades. Solar power can be a viable source of clean energy that will pay for itself in a few years and continue to generate energy long after you're gone without harming the planet.
"In a single hour, the amount of power from the sun that strikes the Earth is more than the entire world consumes in an year."
In Nepal NEA has provisions for you to send your excess solar generated energy back to the grid and get credits in your total bill. This is only limited to a 3 phase connection for now but will be available for single phase home users once proper policies are in place. What about yours ?
