A Dive Into Kanaria Metaverse

Kanaria Skybreach is the name of RMRK’s upcoming metaverse. Its based on Kanaria birds, a flagship implementation of the RMRK 2.0 standard. Kanaria eggs - sold to raise funds by RMRK team - later hatched into the Kanaria birds.

RMRK (pronounced remark) is a standard for creating and trading NFTs on the Kusama blockchain. Kusama is a substrate based relay network that connects other blockchains (parachains). It is lightweight and only deals with providing security to the connected parachains and hence doesn’t support on-chain logic like smart contracts.

Kanaria Skybreach:

Skybreach is gonna be the name of the RMRK metaverse. It will be a Play-to-Earn game. The universe will have a simple crafting and mining economy wherein any avatar will be able to mine base resources by putting your avatar to work. Land will be rentable and sellable in Skybreach. All land plots will be NFTs in the metaverse which can equip other NFTs such as restaurants or billboards.

The metaverse will require on-chain logic, so RMRK is foraying into EVM with a grant from Moonriver. This would enable RMRK standard NFTs to be compatible on any EVM chain.

The Kanaria project has been under development for over 6 months now and is progressively building towards its goal. Up until now it has been missing a key element: on-chain logic. When building a metaverse, there are typically two choices: a gamer-optimized 1st/3rd person experience or a casual experience.

While the metaverse isn't slated for launch until Q4, the fourth quarter of 2022, the playable prototypes will likely experiment with a number of engine somewhat similar to the Eastworld Westworld and habbo hotel game graphics and lesser of Minecraft.

The goal is to have a metaverse that is just as easy to join and leave when waiting for a bus, as it is when sitting on the couch at home or behind the computer.

While the Kanaria team isn't launching their own chain as stated earlier on, they are deploying their pallets on existing chains and launching on one of those. It is unsure whether they will be launching the metaverse functionality (back end) on Moonriver or a blockchain with pallets integrated, as the project is still basically in transition.

The main idea is to power the back-end of this metaverse through a decentralized architecture, arguably the hardest of the tasks, and something the team is working with Phala on.
Kanaria Skybreach is a match made in heaven and the truest proof of concept of RMRK's capabilities for many reasons. Chief among them is the multi-resource NFTs and stanadlone equippables.

With RMRK, NFTs can embody not just resources and tools, but experiences and achievements. These NFTs can be contained inside your avatar. They stay with it, for as long as users want them to.

Additionally, NFTs being multi-resource means a metaverse can stay truly decentralized. A single RMRK 2.0 NFT can contain all the assets needed to render it in a game environment - they are essentially the Swiss army knife of NFTs.
