Gems: Quarter 1 Roadmap

Gems’ progress to date and our future key milestones

We couldn’t be more excited to share with our Gems community our Q1 Roadmap. To say that things have been moving quickly at Gems is an understatement. For example, in ~1 month our Gems community has grown from less than 10 people to over 8,000— simply amazing.

The only thing growing faster than our Telegram at Gems is our development pace. Our decision making progress thus far at Gems has been consistent with building efficiently to execute on our collective vision.

At Gems, we believe in releasing a product that can bring value to the ecosystem on day one. We subscribe to the mentality of finding product market fit, iterating, and expanding. It is with this in mind that we release our Gems Q1 Roadmap.

Current Public Progress Recap:

Pre-Alpha ✔️

Timeline: December 1, 2017

The Gems Pre-Alpha demo demonstrates the core essentials of Gems. In the technology demo, we show an application that assigns tasks to miners, creates a due date for the work, and keeps track of task completions. We further step through our engineering practices, our language choices, previews of our code, the backend representation of jobs and tasks on the blockchain, and the visual demo itself.

Gems Community Program

Timeline: December 14th, 2017 — January 8th, 2018, 11:59PM PST

The Gems Community Program is the way to secure a spot in the Gems Pre-Sale/Token Launch. Those who are contributing to the Gems ecosystem and can utilize the GEM token will be the ones who are allowed to partake in our token pre-sale. After an explosive Telegram launch, combined with exceptional community members who were the driving force behind that growth, we saw the power of the Gems Community. To say that people have made exceptional things would be an understatement. Whether it’s custom sticker packs, 3D models of Gem Tokens, blog reviews, answering questions in the chat or beyond, we are so thankful for our Gems community.

The Gems Community Program form closes on January 8th, at 11:59pm PST.

Looking Forward

Gems Alpha on Ropsten Testnet

Timeline: On or before January 8th, 2018

The Gems Alpha, a scaled-down version of the full Gems Protocol/Platform, will be released on Ropsten testnet by January 8th, 2018.

Users will be able to complete a boiler plate task and earn fake Gems, as shown in the pre-alpha.

Gems Front End Open Sourced

Timeline: On or before January 8th, 2018

Gems front end will be open sourced in conjunction with the Gems Alpha release on Ropsten testnet. The backend will not be released yet as we look for potential vulnerabilities.

Pre-Sale Interest Signaled for the Gems Token Sale

Timeline: Mid January

Gems Community members who see value in the GEM Token, and have passed the Gems Community Program, will receive an email allowing them to express interest in the Gems Pre-Sale.

Token Metrics Announced and Gems Pre-Sale Allocation Awarded

Timeline: Mid January

Gems Community members will be allotted their individual contribution amounts, as dictated by their contribution to the Gems Community Program.

Gems Pre-Sale and Subsequent Token Sale

Timeline: Late January-Early February

The GEM token is a multi-utility token necessary for payments, staking, and signaling future modules. Details about the exact time and duration of the token launch will be released soon. All updates will be posted on the Gems Telegram, Gems Announcements Telegram, and Gems Twitter.

Gems on MainNet

Timeline: Upon Completion of Token Sale

At the completion of the Gems Token Sale, miners will be able to earn Gems by completing tasks. As we want to have an efficient balance between number of requesters and miners, the Gems Alpha will have a predetermined requester, selected by the Gems $100k award.

Module Signaling & Iterative Development

Timeline: Upon Completion of Token Sale

GEM token holders will be able to signal future tasks that Gems will build modules for.

Through feedback from the Gems Alpha users and in-depth work with UI/UX researchers, we will continue iterating for well-designed, intuitive interfaces and streamlined workflows.

Protocol Improvements (GRIM/GRAM, Staking, Trust Score, new methods)

Timeline: Q1

We will improve the Gems Protocol to a state that reduces consensus by redundancy. We’re following the notion of iterating rather than developing in the dark. Consensus by redundancy reduction will vastly improve the Gems Protocol.

Jobs Creation API

Timeline: Q1

One of the benefits of Gems is allowing anyone to tap into the power of scalable micro task labor. In our Alpha, we’ll be heavily restricting those who can be a requester on the platform — in fact, we’ll be allowing requesters on one by one. Towards the end of Q1, upon completion of Gems Protocol improvements that reduce consensus by redundancy, we’ll begin opening up the Gems ecosystem to more requesters through our Jobs Creation API.
