We try our hand at having 7 events in 10 days and it is relatively successful

We are one of the more active Hash House Harriers chapters in the world. This is not something that we brag about often because it isn't necessarily because we are hard workers or do a good job at marketing. We just happen to live in just the right sort of area that has great access to nature while still being near an international airport and in a city that has a lot of activities in it as well as being a major metro area for the entire country of Thailand.

We always maintain at least 3 runs per week because even though we operate together when the time calls for it, there are actually 4 Hash Chapters right here in Chiang Mai. The all male Hash, the Thursday Hash, the Saturday Hash, and the Bunny Hash which is all women. We do our own things but also cross promote because competition with one another would be really counter-productive.

The all male Hash for example exists only out of tradition and because of the fact that we had enough people in town willing to keep it going. Their day of the week as is tradition has always been Monday and they adhere to the rather strict rules that were established in the 40's and 50's of last century. No women are allowed for any reason and it is really just for tradition's sake that this is done. Nothing particularly naughty takes place on these runs or after them, it's just a thing that is done.

Bunny Hashes unfortunately are quite rare in the Hash House Harriers globally but we had enough women interested in their own chapter here that they wanted to start it and we were like "it's got nothing to do with us, do whatever you want!" and they have been very successful in their own right ever since. There are rumors it is one of the most active Bunny Hashes in the world but since nobody actually keeps any statistics about any of this stuff, we'll never know for sure.

We have been featured on a global scale in what few publications exist as some sort of global Hash news and when we host an international event, we always get some good attendance from around the world.

Recently though, when we attempted to have 7 events in 10 days, it was something we had never tried before and this takes quite a lot of planning. For one thing, to have 7 events you have to have at least 14 people that are willing to actually design the trails for the participants and this can be a lot of work especially for people that are rather new to the area. This is likely the most difficult part of any of what we do. The other logistics such as getting buses for all the people involved is rather simple: We just contact or Thai bus drivers and tell them how many buses we need and voila! It gets done.

This time around it was really special because on Sundays of both weeks (the 17th and the 24th of November) we had a Ball-Breaker and a Cherry-Breaker event back-to-back combined with our regular thrice weekly runs among all the other kennels.

The most amazing part of it all was the fact that all 7 events went through their phases and everything went smoothly. We didn't actually count how many people attended but for both Sunday events, they were sold out and tons of people participated.

We had plenty of beer, nobody got hurt, and as far as we could tell everyone had fun.

This might seem like a low bar to set to be continued successful but that is just the way that we operate.

As far as December is concerned, you can see that we already have the entire month blocked off with confirmed events, 2 of which are special events.

The holidays are not cold here and we get a lot of visitors during this time. If you happen to be one of the people that is visiting Thailand and you want to see what HHH is all about, this is a great time to find out. Full details are always available at our official website
