PLAYLIST : EXPERIMENTING
LOCATION: Canyon Dr.
Strain: KNBIS Gelato OG

Tonight's run down Canyon Dr. I wanted to try something different. I've had this song by Patrick Watson stuck in my head. The self titled track off of his album "Adventures In Your Own Backyard". It's a twisted song with all kinds of turns, get up and go and what have you. Great for a run. I felt that I should give it a go. The problem is, it's got too much get up and go for a first track. It's more of a track two or five. It's not a point of no return song, (The song that, if you're still running after it's finished then you have to complete the rest of the #playlist).

So I have to think about what to build around it. This can take several days of trial and error. Hell, I don't even know what I want this new #playlist to be called but, I'm sure that too will reveal itself.

I started with the idea of what that song is. It lands at number 11 on the track list from the 2014, Watson album. Certainly a wake up call into another world. Like you're running on a Wild West Television shows rolling backdrop. The ones required the actor ride up and down on a mechanical saddle while the background continues to repeat itself. You feel like you're on a movie set in the fifties. By the end of the song, everything has collapsed, torn from the seams, lights, camera all come crashing down.

So I'm trying to think what's a good lead into this song. Where can I go with this thing? I'm looking for suggestions. Really! If you find me a good running song and post to the comments, I'll reward you with some SBD.

GONE FOR RUN

BACK FROM RUN

This one was a doozy. A big experiment. This really turned out to be the Ether to my Bitcoin. I'll try to make it through everything but, to be completely honest, it's gonna be hard. There's so much of the experience you want to remember when you're running high and #Playlisting.

My first stab at the Experimental 1 Playlist (Working Title) went like this:

  1. Sleeping Lessons - The Shins
  2. Serotonin - Simple Kid
  3. Adventures in Your Own Backyard - Patrick Watson
  4. Reflektor - Arcade Fire
  5. Bye - Elliott Smith
  6. Bittersweet Melodies - Feist
  7. Banshee Beat - Animal Collective
  8. Faces - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
  9. Windowsill - Arcade Fire
  10. High By The Beach - Lana Del Rey
  11. Kid Gloves - Doomtree
  12. Fences - Phoenix
  13. Psychopath - St. Vincent
  14. January - Stone Cold Fox
  15. Bodysnatchers - Radiohead
  16. 2+2=5 (The Lukewarm.) - Radiohead

This is my slapping songs together. Now I will admit. There's something really special about Lighthouse being your number one. It don't get better than that. That's one thing that #RunningClassic really does have, undisputedly, a good beginning.

Find out how it turned out by the end of the night, right after these images of food:

That #Playlist kind of fell off the truck pretty nicely. I have to adjust a few items here and there but after first round tailoring, it'll look like this:

MY KEEPS

  1. Sleeping Lessons - The Shins
  2. Adventures in Your Own Backyard - Patrick Watson
  3. Serotonin_ - Simple Kid
  4. Reflektor - Arcade Fire
  5. Bye - Elliott Smith
  6. Banshee Beat - Animal Collective
  7. Windowsill - Arcade Fire
  8. High By The Beach - Lana Del Rey
  9. Kid Gloves - Doomtree
  10. Psychopath - St. Vincent
  11. 2+2=5 (The Lukewarm.) - Radiohead

Not too shabby.

I had to swap Adventures with Serotonin it just made more sense to collapse the space between the absolute blast of the first song and the inspiration for the entire #Playlist. Really, Adventures is the founding song but doesn't really hold a candle to the explosive power of The Shins's Sleeping Lessons. By the end of that song I'm swiping the air and dancing.

This is me raiding my Library of the 20s. Sleeping Lessons and 2+2=5 land in great spots, coming into my life the earliest of all the other Tracks. I forgot how amazing Sleeping was it's really an injection to the heart. By the row of swaying palm trees you're at full speed in the thick of traffic. And it's appropriate that 2+2=5. Sort of gives you context for the rest of the List. Like some kind of flashback album.
After Round 1:

MY CUTS

  1. Bitter Sweet Melodies because I don't think it landed to well in this beefed up list. It might've done okay over in #Ghost but, this thing is punchier than #RunningGhost. It's faster, full of boosts. Bitter Sweet Belongs somewhere else.

  2. Faces - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
This went immediately. The thing landed all wrong and it's just a repeat of the same feelings I just came from.

  3. Fences - Phoenix
Same thing here. this one could not sustain itself after a Doomtree mic drop. This thing didn't stand a chance. Also, it might be too weak for this #Playlist.

  4. January - Stone Cold Fox
This is a song from a band who's lead singer is a former friend of mine. I thought it was good when I first heard these songs six years ago but, it's aged and it shows. It doesn't carry the same charge it once did. I dumped this one quick.

  5. Bodysnatchers - Radiohead
Although I love this song very much, by this time in the #Playlist, you're in no mood to go any further while running to electric shock. This thing is like the beginning of a race not the end of a jog. I had to ditch this one fast.
