I'm going to be a runner, just give me a little time!

I've wanted to get back into running shape for a while, and now it's time. I came across @runningproject through @lil-mich and think that it will be a great community to be a part of!

For as long as I can remember I've had trouble running or even walking outside because after only a few minutes I become very itchy and finally have to stop before turning crazy. Even last week I was thinking that I had to give up running, the only thing that can solve the itching is to wear a lot of clothes, but wearing two layers of wool in 25 c is not very comfortable! Finally, and I can't believe I haven't discovered this sooner, it's a kind of hives! For the last week I've taken antihistamines and I've been active without being itchy at all! I'm so happy that I finally can go out and run and not have to worry about getting itchy.

I do have another challenge though, and that is my knees, they've been through a lot of hard skiing and I've had several surgeries in both. I think with correct running technique and sticking to gravel paths I will be fine. There, my two problems explained, one already solved! I'm feeling very positive about making progress now.

Here are some images from my morning walk/run. Yes, I must admit that I didn't run continuously, but that's my goal. All in all 6 km, and a great start to the day.

And a little selfie

I started my run after walking my oldest kid to school, which is only downhill from us, which means mostly uphill in the woods to get back home. Here's the last hill to climb.

Next time I'll register the walk/run on Strava, but for now I'll show you my Fitbit results that includes the very slow walk with 6 year olds to school picking flowers along the way... I guess the curves speak for themselves. 34636668_10160448542390440_2629792871724613632_n.jpg

I think it can only get better from here, so it's on! Look forward to next run already and look forward to follow you other runners out there for inspiration and motivation!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Run/walk intervals is a great start. It'll get your feet adjusted to the impact. :)

Thank you for your comment and I'm glad to hear it. I think you're absolutely right and I'll get up to speed eventually :)

Looking great Helen! :) Welcome to the community, and good on you for sorting out the itching thing. What a relief! :)

Thank you so much! Yes, such a relief, I felt so awkward with that issue, but happy that it's history! :)
