Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week 34: Time Changes

Good day steemians how are you all doing today I hope all is well and you all are having a nice and wonderful day as for me I'm perfectly fine and enjoying my day

Today I'm very much please to welcome you all to the accelerator contest week 34 which is being organized and hosted by the steem4nigeria community and has the theme Time Changes

Mention 5 Things That Was There In Your Country 10 Years Back That Isn't Here Now?

Ten years ago Nigeria I remember very well that some of the things that were in used at that time can't be found anywhere today, some of which includes;

  • Kitto
  • Banana chewing gum
  • Heartack biscuit
  • 10 naira gala
  • Agege bread

As listed above kitto was a school sanders that was very popular many years back and back then if you don't have one that means that you have not yet started, and another one is banana chewing gum which was the reigning chewing that was sold for 8 pieces 50 naira

Heartack biscuit for this one I don't know if it's still on sale but trust me I have not seen it again in any of the supermarkets here in uyo, and another one is the 10 naira gala, when I was in nursery school I always like it because if you buy it for 100 naira that would be 10 pieces of gala.

And the last but not the least is the agege bread which was made popular by a popular Nollywood actor nkem owoh (ukwa) it was a bread that had no pack infact the bread was sold naked and with no label, but now it is nowhere to be found.

Is The Value Of Currency Used In Your Country Appreciating Or Depreciating?

Back in the days when Nigeria was still Nigeria that 1 dollars was equals to 100 naira all thanks to our president at that time who was very much after the welfare and needs of his people unlike our today's leader that is only after their own selfish interest

The value of our countries currency keeps depreciating as time goes by, for example many years back 1 dollar was just 100 naira, also I remember still some few years back 1 dollar was 500 naira which you can see that naira keeps depreciating slowly

Now in today's international market as we speak that same 1 dollar is now equals to 1450 naira, with that you can see how bad our economy is and even binance was forced to delist naira from their exchange because it had no value making redrawal to be very difficult

For example if I received a crypto in my binance wallet I won't be able to redraw it directly to my account since naira isn't there anymore, so in other to redraw I will then have to transfer the crypto to our local wallet which only supports limited number of crypto before being able to redraw it and along the way as the token is being transferred you no that charges apply and before you know it you get to loose 1/3 of your funds.

Deliberate On The Prices Of 5 Commodities In Your Country 10 Years Back And Now.

At this point if you see any Nigerian citizen and ask him or her this question the first thing that they will made mention of is fuel, so the prices of 5 Commodities in my country ten years back are;

  • Fuel
  • Cement
  • Garri
  • Rice
  • Lifan motorcycle

Fuel

I could remember ten years ago when fuel was so cheap that even most kids would even buy fuel to prepare for themselves gum and I could remember back then ten years ago when fuel was so cheap that mechanics would wash their hands alongside their entire tools with it.

I could remember back then when fuel was 100 naira (0.18 steem) a litre and 50 naira for half litre (0.08 steem) but now as we speak fuel has become one of the most valuable thing in Nigeria 😂, it is now 700 naira a litre (1.24 steem) and 350 naira for half litre (0.62 steem)

Cement

This one is the worst, I could remember back then 10 years ago when a bag of cement was sold for just 1000 naira (1.78 steem) but now as we speak that same bag of cement is now sold for 10,000 naira (17.76 steem) which is very bad and those that didn't build their house back then are still tenants up till now because only a multimillionaire can build a house here in Nigeria today

Garri and Rice

I'm going to combine this two together, I could remember ten years ago when 10 cups of garri was sold for 100 naira and rice was 2 and a half cup for 100 naira (0.18 steem) but now as we speak that same ten cups of garri is sold for 1200 naira (2.13 steem ) and that same 2and a half cup of rice is now sold for 1000 naira (1.78 steem)

Lifan motorcycle

I could remember when things were still normal in Nigeria that a Lifan motorcycle was sold for 90,000 naira (159 steem) but now as we speak that same motorcycle is now sold for 750,000 naira (1334 steem)

With all that is mentioned above you can clearly see that our countries economy is falling apart and things are getting out of hand as we citizens are all struggling to survive because from the high cost of vehicles to high cost of fuels as well as the high cost of food people are now living from hand to mouth.

Has These Changes Affected You? If Yes, How. If No, Tell Us Your Secrets

The only people who doesn't feel this changes in our economy are those who are fortunate enough to be born into a very rich family (golden spoon) which is to say that I on the other hand who leaves on the exact opposite has very much been affected by this changes infact it is killing me slowly.

And how this changes has affected me is that before when things were still okay and normal a person can easily prepare a delicious meal with just 1000 naira (1.78 steem) because things were cheap and affordable but now until you hold a minimum of 3000 naira (5.33 steem) before you are even able to prepare a manageable meal

And the worse part of it is that before you are able to raise this amount of money you will sweat 💦 to your balls (no offense) but it's the truth, so life in Nigeria is very terrible and sometimes I wonder if other countries is like this

This will be the end of my entry and I will like to invite some of my friends @kyrie1234, @khursheedanwar & @malikusman1 to also come and participate
