ultimate packlist for co-sailing

in #sailing7 years ago

I have the problem with my sailing list: it makes a big difference whether I would like to sail on the IJsselmeer in April or have found a midsailing opportunity on the Canaries in August.

That is why I am dividing my sailing pack into two parts: there is a list of equipment for rather cold areas and a packing list for the hot to hot areas in the summer or in the tropics.

Another note about the use of this list is that I only list things that are necessary for sailing. Everything you should have on every trip, you will find in my basic packlist on another post.

I'm starting with the warm to hot sails. This makes sense in that (almost) all the equipment that is included in this list should be in colder areas - so the list is much longer.

Important: The basic rules for packing

However, the basic rule number 1 belongs to the top: If you want to be unhappy with the skipper and the crew at the start, then you bring a large hard shell case on board. For you can not find a suitable place on any boat and it will only be lying in the way and very disturbing.

It is much easier to store travel bags or backpacks like the one I have always had. The best solution is, of course, a real duffel - waterproof and crumbling, it finds a place everywhere.

That leads me directly to the second basic rule for the baggage while sailing: Even if you are on sail boats do not have to carry your own luggage: The space is extremely tight on sailboats! That's why here too: just pack up what is really necessary!

... and other hot areas like the Canaries and Cape Verde Islands, the Pacific Pacific Ocean, etc.

Clothes

  • Sailing boots are needed for the tread - there are a lot of fittings on the deck where you can hang. In addition, work is also done on board. It is especially important that the shoes do not rub off, most skippers do not stand on strips on the deck. But it is also sneakers with a light sole, such as the Adidas Samba, which flies around almost everywhere.
  • Sailing or cycling gloves for the warmers among us. Gloves prevent fire damage to the pods.
  • Cap - for the perfect sailing style, as well as against the sun.
  • swimming trunks
  • sunglasses
  • Hand wash for laundry. Washing machines are not available on board of sailing boats.
  • Travel towel - fast drying.
  • Clothespins - clothes get wet quickly at sea, dry quickly thanks to the wind - but they also blow away quickly.

Equipment for sailing and water sports

  • Snorkel
  • swimming goggles
  • TaucLycra Surfshirt - good against too much sun over and underwater eyewear
  • Neoprene suit, if necessary
  • Rescue Vest - if you have one. There are plenty of boats on most boats - if you want to sail more often and buy one: Be sure to buy a fully automatic rescue vest. Everything else is toys and at sea not to use.
  • Sailing license(s) - if available.
  • Miles book

Entertainment & Technology
On longer trips over several days you have to provide for entertainment - you often do not have much on board!*

  • Headlamp - Important: Should have a red filter for the night watch - I use the SEO 7R of Ledlenser (before: Tacticca of Petzl).
  • USB Chargers - for mobile phone, camera, tablet etc.
  • Additional battery - I use the Icy Box Powerbank
  • Replacement battery - for camera and mobile phone
  • Ebook reader - with enough books. I have a Kindle.
  • Audiobooks - you can not have enough! Perfect for lonely guarding shift.
  • Storm Lighter - Not only for smokers but also for the gas cooker and for 1000 other occasions with which one does not expect.
  • Underwater housing - for the camera - for underwater photos, or when it is very splashy.

Co-sailing pharmacy

  • Anti-mosquito spray - In the harbors, the beasts are everywhere in summer.
  • Fenistil - When the mosquitoes were faster.
  • Sunmilk - water resistant, minimum light protection 30. No oil - makes the deck slippery.
  • Sneezing - which also helps against sundress
  • Wound disinfectant like Octenisept.
  • Travel kinks - should also help against sea sickness. I think Superpep is the classic.
  • Vitamin C - also helps against sea sickness. Either in pills or naturally - many swear by ginger.
  • Diarrhea - for example Imodium akkut
  • Sticking plaster

On a well-equipped sailing yacht, there are a lot of other medicines - strong painkillers for real emergencies, bandages and so on. Also, a large portion of the medics listed here should be available.

However, you can not expect from your skipper that he cares for any pain of his crew - if you have the drugs from this list, you certainly do not dislike.

Sleep

You can not assume that the skipper has enough blankets, etc. for all fellow sailors, therefore:

  • Sleeping bag - I have an artificial fiber sleeping bag that keeps warm up to -10 ° C. Caution with down, which are very moisture sensitive
  • Hammock - was already in the middle ages the insider tip among sailors. Nowadays there are ultralight travel mats.
  • earplugs
  • Sleep mask

And now you!
What have I forgotten?
