bowed out Denmark Open Super Series Premier losing to Japanese fourth seed and defending champion Akane Yamaguchi in the women's singles quarter-finals on Friday.
Yamaguchi completely outplayed Nehwal 21-10, 21-13 in just 29 minutes in what turned out to be a completely one-sided contest.
Nehwal was unable to read Yamaguchi's deceptive shots and apart from a couple of little victories, the Indian star could not match the Japanese.
Yamaguchi's speed, court coverage and agility proved to be the blocks for Nehwal and she could never really dominate her Japanese opponent.
In the first game, Yamaguchi opened up a huge lead early on and though Nehwal put up a couple of beautiful smashes, Yamaguchi strolled away with the game.
The second game remained neck-and-neck with both the players alternating between the points till Yamaguchi took a slender lead of 11-10 at the break.
From there on, the Japanese accelerated and took seven consecutive points to close down the game and reach her second straight semi-final.
Later in the day, India's top men's singles player world number 8 Kidambi Srikanth will face world No. 1 and local favourite Victor Axelsen while HS Prannoy will take on first seed and world No. 2 Son Wan Ho of Korea.
