Born: JUL 29, 1959 

 

Sanjay Dutt was born in Mumbai to famous film actors, Nargis and Sunil Dutt. 


His first movie: Rocky, JAN 19, 1982 


Arrest for taking drugs:  DEC 03, 1982 


 Dutt has said in interviews that he started using drugsafter his mother died of cancer. He was 22 years old at the time. In 1982, he spent five months in jail for drug possession. Soon after, he joined a rehabilitation center in Texas, USA. 


First Marriage: Sanjay Dutt married Richa Sharma. They have a daughter, Trishala, who was born in 1988.


  

Second Arrest - Possession of Arms:    APR 19, 1993 


 Dutt was arrested for illegal possession of arms. He was accused of accepting a delivery of weapons and explosives from gangsters who were also implicated in the Mumbai serial blasts in 1993. 


 

Granted Bail:  JAN 19, 1999 


 Dutt was granted bail by the Supreme Court. 


 

Bollywood Hits:  JAN 20, 2000 


 He appeared in three consecutive hits in 1999 -- Daag: The Fire; Haseena Maan Jayegi; and Vaastav: The Reality .


 

Awards:  JAN 20, 2007 


 Dutt won a Filmfare Award & a Star Screen Award in the best actor category for Vaastav: The Reality. 


 

UP Elections:   JUL 31, 2007 

 He tried to contest as a Samajwadi Party candidate in the 2009 parliamentary election. But the Supreme Court cancelled his candidature because of his involvement in the Mumbai blasts. 


 

Sentenced to Jail: MAR 21, 2013 


 Sanjay Dutt was sentenced to six years in jail on the last day of a trial that had dragged on for 13 years. 


 

Supreme Court Verdict: MAY 16, 2013 


 The Supreme Court upheld Dutt's conviction for illegal possession of a weapon in connection with the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. 


 

Surrendered: MAY 16, 2013 


 Sanjay Dutt surrendered before a special court in Mumbai that tried cases under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act. 


 

Curative Petition: FEB 25, 2016 


 The Supreme Court rejected Dutt's curative petition - the last procedural resort for a anyone seeking redressal against the Supereme Court's verdict.
