Good Works Towards the Poor - The Dorcas Ministry

Acts 9:36-42 New Life Version (NLV)

36 A woman who was a follower lived in the city of Joppa. Her name was Tabitha, or Dorcas. She did many good things and many acts of kindness.
37 One day she became sick and died. After they had washed her body, they laid her in a room on the second floor.
38 The city of Lydda was near Joppa. The followers heard that Peter was at Lydda and sent two men to ask him to come at once.
39 Peter went back with them. When he came, they took him to the room. All the women whose husbands had died were standing around crying. They were showing the clothes Dorcas had made while she was with them.
40 Peter made them all leave the room. Then he got down on his knees and prayed. He turned to her body and said, “Tabitha, get up!” She opened her eyes and looked at Peter and sat up.
41 He took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then he called in the faithful followers and the women whose husbands had died. He gave her to them, a living person.
42 News of this went through all Joppa. Many people put their trust in the Lord.

The Bible story of Dorcas keeps inspiring me as a person for as many times as I can read through. I see in Dorcas a woman sold out for the Ministry of the Poor. She dedicated her time to make clothings for the poor women. She invested her time, resources, skills and virtue for the sustenance of poor widows.

The result was their (widows) brokenness to God in prayers on the behalf of the dying Dorcas. Indeed, God will never despise the prayers from a broken and contrite heart as those offered by the widows whose lives were touched by the sacrificial living of Dorcas.

I am challenged to think on how much I touch lives with my skills, finances, goodwill and knowledge just like Dorcas did. Truly, I see a woman with a great heart out to sacrificially help others. With this challenged to put in more strength and value to my @BlessTheOrphan project.

We have to come to terms with this reality that there are people whose lives we can touch in a little way, yet, it looks as though we gave them billions - The poor, the widows, the vulnerable minors.

The poor, the widows, the vulnerable minors represent those who may not be able to repay us in any way. Yet, with their prayers, they can touch heavens and showers be released to us.

May we all arise to support the #BlessTheOrphan project which intends to heal the broken, and vulnerable orphans.

PRAYER

Lord, help me to offer a sacrificial service that will heal many hearts to the Glory of your name - Amen.

Dear @Evegrace

The Ministry for the poor and widows as undertook by Dorcas is God's demand for us today. It is great to see that you get challenged by this virtue. We pray God helps you to emulate for the blessing of humanity.
