The Sun has its own orbit, it revolves

in #science6 years ago (edited)

Every planet move in two ways; Rotation and Revolution. Before now, it was known that the Sun is the center of the solar system and Earth and all other planets revolve around it.
However, the Sun itself rotates and revolves, but because of its humongous size and nature as a ball of gases and plasma, it was insignificant to notice then.

As the sun isn't a rigid planetary body, determining and studying its movement is quite hard. After researches overtime, the movement of the sunspots were studied and the Sun was estimated to have a rotation period of about 27 days.

The Sun does revolve about a point in the centre of our galaxy. This Period of Orbit takes 225 million years.

All planets, including the Sun revolve around the Center of Mass or Barycenter of the Solar system. The center of mass is actually close to the sun but it is neither the Sun nor its center. So, the Sun too revolve around this point.
Each body in the solar system exhibits gravitational pull amongst one another and this is what lead to their specific orbits. These pulls lead to the formation of specific orbits and may vary depending on distance, mass and shape (axial tilt) of the body. This is also applicable to the Sun.

Earth rotates on several axis yearly. I seem to recall it is either seven or fifteen. I think one is over a 74 year period and another about 800 years. I believe this information could help us understand the various weather cycles a little better.
- David Brayshaw, Mudgee

So, every other planet does not orbit around the Sun. It's just an oversimplication like in other science-related topics e.g. saying the acceleration of gravity, g is 10m/s2 instead of 9.8m/s2.
