Tongue- is that part of our body that doesn’t have any bone in it but is tremendously mapped into different areas of taste like no other body part. We always studied that tongue has its own different areas that are responsible for detecting a particular taste. But, it is kind of a misconception. The tongue as a whole works in detecting the taste but it just that some areas that we call as taste detectors are sensitive towards a particular taste. Just because of this fact we say that the tongue is mapped into different areas of taste.
Let’s know more about the map of the tongue. The tongue is majorly mapped to taste Bitter, Sour, Salty and Sweet. These are all the major tastes one tastes in their lifetime.

So, here we see a well mapped tongue with different areas of taste. We can easily detect the parts that is mapped to taste Bitter, Sour, Salty and Sweet.
The back of the tongue is mapped to feel the bitterness of any food which is represented with blue color.
The left and right green color patches are mapped to taste the sour content present in the food items.
The left and right yellow patches are mapped to taste the salty content of the food.
The last area that is represented by purple color is mapped to taste the sweetness of the food.
So, we can say that the tongue is mapped into different areas of taste.
