I think you're right that there are many misperceptions. My kids have totally wacky ideas about space, and honestly I'm sure I do too. I remember seeing A Brief History of Time, as my mind opened to new possibilities. I love the way astronomy opens the mind, as we work to understand something so vast through our tiny telescope glimpses.
