Did the Moon sink the Titanic? How the tides affected the Titanic?
Hello to all this great community in this opportunity I am going to talk a little about one of the most unfortunate tragedy that has happened in the whole world, we already know this a bit, and I am also going to answer some questions we ask ourselves about this topic
Did the Moon sink the Titanic?
All this had as its beginning in 1907, in London, J. Bruce Ismay and Lord James Pirrie made a decision to get to build 3 large ships for passengers who moved to transatlantic and had a very high level of luxury and elegance. This plan started the construction of the so-called Olympic, Titanic and Gigantic ships, subsidized by the International Mercantil Marine.
The construction of this ship that had the name Titanic began in 1909 this ship had many luxuries that people did not even have in their homes. At last, in the year of 1912, already this work had finished and was taken to the port of Southampton, from that point it would begin its great trip that was highly anticipated by all those who were going to travel in it.
This ship full of great luxuries had sailed to New York, had 3 consecutive days without giving any problem, but on the fourth day was that this great and unexpected disaster happened. The Titanic, still having many ice warnings in the area where it passed, with Edward Smith as captain of the ship, continued at the same speed, and without even stopping for a moment. When night fell, suddenly you could see a huge iceberg moving towards the ship. It was attempted to divert the course, but this was impossible to avoid the collision with the iceberg.
he sinking of the famous Titanic was around 100 years ago, this is perhaps the most famous and most studied disaster of the 20th century. Countless books and films have managed to examine in great detail some of the actions, decisions and errors that caused the collision of the ocean liner against an unexpected iceberg on the night of April 14 of the year 1912 the sinking of the ship was in the course of how many hours, this happened with approximately 1500 people who were staying the Titanic, all these people lost their lives in the icy waters of the North Atlantic.
Olson has the belief that the existence of this unexpected icebergs, was a result of a rare lunar event that occurs at that time, says that this was what included a call (supermoon), this phenomenon happens when the full moon is in its point closest to the planet Earth.
During the new or full moons as you want to call it, the Sun, Earth and Moon tend to align in such a way that the gravity forces of the Moon and the Sun are accentuated, this produces a stronger tide than is normal, and it is known as (spring tide).
That was the greatest lunar approach since the year 796 that the tragedy passed, the planet Earth will not see anything like that until the year 2257. The combination of the moon at a point that is very close and the already mentioned alignment, together with an increase of gravitational thrust, were those that caused the strong tide.
How the tides affected the Titanic?
In the first place, the tides may have been the ones that caused the ruptures of the glaciers in Greenland,
and sending a set of icebergs to the south. But nevertheless, icebergs do not have the facility to move so quickly. According to Olsen says, those who had formed this way on the 14th of April could not have come to travel so fast to get in the way of the Titanic. Rather it is believed that the tides had to drag the icebergs that were stranded in the waters that were shallow, this was off the coast of Labrador and Newfoundland.
Normally, these icebergs do not usually resume the path until they have melted enough to be able to refloat, or are released by a very high tide, says Olson. Thus, it can be concluded that it was the strong spring tide that created it, on the 4th of January it was able to refloat many icebergs at the same time, these were sending them south until they found the Titanic.
It is possible to add that we have found many stories about the tides that are unprecedented all over the world in the month of January of the year 1912. The report that was made about the sinking of the famous Titanic and the influence of the moon appears in the number April of the magazine called Sky & Telescope.
