The world's first human head transplant is set to take place this year.A Italian neuroscientist Dr. Sergio Canavero announced the plans in 2013 and has since then recruited a Chinese surgeon to help him.
The volunteer for the transplant is a Russian man named Valery Spiridonov.Spiridonov suffers from Werdnig-Hoffmann Disease, a rare and often fatal genetic disorder that breaks down muscles and kills nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that help the body move. He is confined to a wheelchair with very limited movement of his arms.
