Why I stopped using Holodecs. A message and advice for you in this technological age.
Human Kind is an incredible species that is evolving very quickly technologically. The road to the high-tech age can take many directions, and just a single technological invention can change our society, our culture, and can even strip us of our humanity. In 2600's there are very thorough moral and ethical debates that happen with any new invention. We are very careful to ensure that we allow our technology to enhance us, and bring more value to our lives. These checks and balances do not yet exist in your time, and so there is every potential for the people of this world to embrace technologies as a distraction, or crutch, rather than an enhancement. We have to be careful and constantly ask ourselves whether the technology that we bring into the most intimate parts of our lives are necessary, and whether they actually do enhance our lives.
Our Humanity is our most precious asset, and is a guiding force that we always have somewhere within each of us. What happens when we remove ourselves from the natural order of things, and enmesh real people with digital worlds and digital people? What happens to us when we can no longer distinguish what is real from what is unreal, and we stop doing the things that are innate within us, the things that make us human? What happens when we by-pass our hearts and engage with the world almost entirely from our minds? I am here to give you this message, and help ensure that we never have to know the answer to these questions. I once fell in love with a holographic character called Minuet. She was created entirely by our ships computer, and she was perfect in every way. Minuet had an irresistible charm, intellect and prowess, and was programmed to adapt and seduce any man. She was also strikingly beautiful, more so than any woman I have ever met. What was not to love? She and I had the most engaging and stimulating debates that I have ever had, and was able to preempt my every need and desire. She knew details about me that I had never shared with anyone else, and I was simply unable to prevent myself from falling in love. What do we do when we are faced with the decision to become romantically and even sexually involved with a computer created simulation? How does that change us, and how can that be a good thing? WE have to be careful and consider many implications about the potential of all technologies. Today in your time no one is yet helping you to make the right decisions as to what technology you use, and how much. Therefore it the responsibility of everyone to think, and ask the very important question, will this enhance my life or will it be a distraction to my life. I look forward to meeting you all in a brave new world. JL
Many of you will be familiar with our holodec's on the Star Ship Enterprise. These holographic rooms have combined the best that we have to offer in computing power, artificial intelligence and holographic projection. In 2628 we can re-create any environment and engage with it on our holodecs. Our technology has advanced to the point that we are able to touch and feel people and objects in our holodecs. Our holodecs are almost indistinguishable from the real world, and they serve us in a variety of ways. They have brought about great advancements in all areas of our lives, and many people could hardly imagine life without them. Nevertheless, I would like to share with you why I have chosen not to use holodecs for social and recreational activities, and deliver a firm warning to you all, based on my experiences and feelings after more than 20 years of using the holodecs in every imaginable way.

There is much to delve into in regards to your post @cpt.picard where technology is concerned. We have become quite reliant on it and often think we are using it to our advantage, though as you point out, that is not always the case. Yet have we truly considered that technology could actually just show us that which we already have the innate ability to do ourselves, but have dumbed ourselves down and simply forgotten. We can read minds, we can teleport, we can know and create things that appear to our present selves as impossible. The ability to tune our frequencies and tap into the the realms of infinity are available, if we were truly ready and open to receive it.

I couldn't have put it better myself @everlove . I have been fortunate enough to meet the Sirian and also Plaedian race and they have no use for externalized technology at all. They have, as you have said, evolved to use their innate technology and creative powers to provide all they they need. Over dependence on technology is something to be very cautious of, and causes us to dumb down and switch off.

You raise some intriguing questions here Captain, and as an empath I feel your sorrow over the doomed relationship you embarked upon with Minuet. And herein lies the crux of the matter. Our 21st Century projections, games and technologies in our virtual worlds do not have the ability to empathise with us. Artificial Intelligence is, in our time, a forming emerging intelligence currently data gathering or mining, not yet evolved to the level of sentience. At least that is what we have been told by the few who are in control.
Our cryptocurrencies are all linked to AI in their decentralised platforms where there are veritable armies of bots swarming around. The danger of not having a form of security around this is beginning to emerge but this, along with the moral implications, are only questioned by a few, not the many! Yet. It is a debate not yet on the ready room table, so to speak!
In asking what is reality, how do we distinguish what reality IS from what is virtual, holo, or projected reality I think you ask a question that cannot be answered without diving much deeper into questions of what human consciousness is, how it interacts in a 3 dimensional universe (indeed is it a multiverse?) and IF it is evolving beyond the need for a material existence at all. And that might need some Earl Grey and a deep pontificate while gazing at the fish tank!!
Thank you for your comment Lily. You raise a good point about how to distinguish between what is real and what is purely holographic.. Perhaps therein lies the answer.. That which has a soul and is alive by any natural definition is what is real (to me).. Whilst we may also be holographic in nature, and indeed the whole of creation, there is a big difference between AI and natural intelligence!

Well put Cpt! I must ask your views on Singularity...I feel our world our time is launching closer and closer to singularity. Is there a time in your history Human's lost there consciousness? Was there ever a battle over Singularity?
Enhancing OR distracting another way to say Stay Connected to Self OR Being Controlled?
Everything is relative iexplore.. it may seem that relatively speaking we are very close to singularity due to things seeming like they are moving faster and faster.. but in truth we are a long way from reaching a singularity. That even would happen somewhere near the end of time! WE are not there yet ;-)
