RE: Are The Earth’s Magnetic Poles Going To Flip?

in #science7 years ago (edited)

The apocalypse can only be caused by disasters coming from space, like for example the sun or huge asteroids, I don’t think earth can destroy itself. But what it can do is to mess with out systems and damage them completely.

It would be a short term damage but will still affect the economic performance of the entire world and probably end some lives too, since every gps will be affected by it, and every ship using them in autopilot could commit mistakes.

But of course, no apocalypse whatsoever, that can only come from ourselves using our nuclear weapons, or from space. Again, I don’t think the earth can destroy itself, not even if every volcano in the planet including the one in Yellowstone exploded at the same time... the hit would be incredibly hard but no apocalypse at all.

As long as the ringwoodite doesn't come out... ;-)

Yeah, for a global apocalypse, something huge is needed! Like you said, an all out nuclear war or something huge from space. I don't think such a polar shift would cause a total global annihilation but only time will tell for the inhabitants of the planet when it will finally happen.
