in #science6 years ago (edited)

Sesamum indicum commonly called sesame is one of the important oil seed crop in the world, and has been cultivated in Nigeria since ancient times for use as traditional health food. Sesame seeds are edible and it is used in making soups, eating the seed either raw or frying with little salt.
Seed Oil from these plant are edible, the nutritional composition of the seed oil include 5.7% moisture, 48.5% crude oil, 20% crude proteins, 7.78% carbohydrate and sometimes by difference of 9.4% crude fiber and 4.2% ash. This is a report from (ehieze et al 1999).
Study has shown that sesame seed is a good source rich in protein, minerals and oil. Sesamum indicum seed oil is of unsaturated type and contain mainly the fatty acid oleic and linoleic.
Alot of research are currently going on to further harvest the great potential of this plant especially in the aspect of health and crop improvement.

I am currently carrying out a research work to increase this plant resistance to diseases and also to improve its nutritional composition.
In few months time i will share my research discovery to the world.IMG_20180802_113914.jpg image from my project site.
