If we want to have permanent settlements on the Moon one day, we will need support facilities for astronauts, at least in the early stages of colonization, which is why NASA, in collaboration with international partners, is developing the first Lunar station called Gateway.

Si queremos llegar tener asentamientos permanentes en la Luna algún día, necesitaremos unas instalaciones de apoyo para los astronautas, al menos en las primeras etapas de la colonización, por esto la NASA en colaboración con socios internacionales están desarrollando la primera estación Lunar llamada Gateway.

Gateway will provide a place for astronauts to live and work during missions to the lunar surface, much like the current International Space Station, will host a variety of scientific experiments in fields such as astronomy, physics and biology, as well as foster international collaboration although it does not always serve much purpose.

Gateway proporcionará un lugar para que los astronautas vivan y trabajen durante las misiones a la superficie lunar, al igual que la actual Estación Espacial Internacional albergará una variedad de experimentos científicos en campos como la astronomía, la física y la biología, además de fomentar la colaboración internacional aunque no siempre sirva para mucho.

The habitable module will be pressurized and will have a life support system that will provide air, water and food for astronauts to live and work on this station, it also has a laboratory module that will house a variety of scientific experiments, this module will be without pressurize and will be able to accommodate bulky instruments.

El módulo habitable estará presurizado y contará con un sistema de soporte vital que proporcionará aire, agua y alimentos para que los astronautas vivan y trabajen en esta estación, cuenta también con un módulo de laboratorio que albergará una variedad de experimentos científicos, este módulo estará sin presurizar y podrá acomodar instrumentos voluminosos.

The station will also have a robotic arm that will be used to manipulate payloads and perform experiments and a space lock that will allow astronauts to perform space walks. Gateway is an ambitious project, a valuable platform for scientific research, technological development and international collaboration.

La estación tendrá también un brazo robótico que se utilizará para manipular cargas útiles y realizar experimentos y una esclusa espacial que permitirá a los astronautas realizar paseos espaciales, Gateway es un proyecto ambicioso, una plataforma valiosa para la investigación científica, el desarrollo tecnológico y la colaboración internacional.

Construction of the Gateway lunar space station will begin with the launch of NASA's Habitable and Logistics Module I (HALO) in late 2024, followed by the launch of ESA's I-Hab module and the ESA's propulsion and energy module in 2025. NASA and in 2026 the ESA ESPRIT refueling module will dock.

La construcción de la estación espacial lunar Gateway comenzará con el lanzamiento a finales de 2024 del módulo Habitable y Logístico I (HALO) de la NASA, en 2025 se lanzará el módulo I-Hab de la ESA y el módulo de propulsión y energía de la NASA y en 2026 se acoplará el módulo de reabastecimiento de combustible ESPRIT de la ESA.

In successive years, additional modules will be attached, including the Canadarm3 and the European Ispresso housing module, with the aim of having the lunar station fully operational by the mid-2030s. En años sucesivos se irán acoplando módulos adicionales, incluyendo el Canadarm3 y el módulo de vivienda europeo Ispresso, con el objetivo de tener la estación lunar en pleno funcionamiento a mediados de la década de 2030.
