By 2021 France will house the worlds largest Tropical Dome. A temperature controlled greenhouse measuring 20,000sq metres. The inhabitants will include Birds, Butterflies, Fish and Turtles. Aluminium and plastic in structure whilst utilizing air-filled cushions much like England’s own Eden Project. The project will be constructed by Coldefy & Associates who have named the project Tropocalia, a welcome paradise in the Pas-de-Calais area. This research hub will be home to scientists but also a welcome haven for tourists and locals.
The Skunk Works’ Compact Fusion Project in California run by Lockheed & Martin now have a patent for a compact fusion reactor (CFR). A fusion reactor the size of a storage container may be a key development in future long distance space travel. Previous attempts at nuclear fusion have been extremely expensive and impractically large, some, 23,000 tons. With an energy output 1 million times more powerful than your standard nuclear reactor the importance of a sound design aboard a passenger craft is self evident.
The internet is now officially predominantly mobile. Google now ranks mobile friendly websites above their desktop friendly counterparts across its own search media, as it now receives more requests for information from mobile devices. A historic day for the home of the internet.
George A.Buzzell et al wrote a paper named A Neurobehavioral Mechanism Linking Behaviorally Inhibited Temperament and Later Adolescent Social Anxiety. It’s aim, to find the cause of social anxiety. Whilst observing children aged 12 wearing an electroencephalogram to monitor their electrical brain activity, they asked the children to perform the flanker test. Once while they were being observed and once whilst not being observed. Their reaction times were noticeably diminished during the session of known observation. The researchers concluded the perceived perception of error in the eyes of others reduced their ability to perform the task well. If you believe others have witnessed you making a mistake you are focusing on that rather than the task at hand (socializing perhaps).
The Amygdala could be the reason you are a left wing nutter. Or even right wing, it just depends on its size. Your Amygdala is located in the brain just behind your eyeballs. A large Amygdala correlates with favouring the status quo and maintaining hierarchies that you perceive as natural and necessary. A small Amygdala likes to change the status quo and perceived inequality. This is a great conspiracy plot to drug the nation in order to enhance their Amygdalas provide a sub-concious mandate to hold on to power. The results hold among both male and female participants with the largest Amygdalas among them least likely to attend a protest.
Enrico Rubaltelli et al have produced a research paper in ‘Personality and Individual Differences’ named ‘Emotional intelligence impact on half marathon finish times’. The day before a half-marathon a team of researchers questioned the participants to reveal their ‘trait emotional intelligence’. The questionnaire included a recall inquiry to their last races and performances and how the overall experience affected them. They “demonstrated that runners' trait EI was the main predictor of runners' finish time. Specifically, trait EI emerged as the variable with the highest power to predict finish time over and above training. Overall, these results are consistent with the explanation that being effective at controlling emotions reduces the impact of fatigue and leads to better performance.”
The Meteron Project (Multi-Purpose End-to-End Robotic Operation Network) is designing ways to allow the operation of an AI machine here on earth, by an astronaut 400km above in space. The idea is to control the robot with as few commands as possible in cooperation with it’s own AI. Applications are likely to include the maintenance of solar panels on Mars from way above the inhospitable surface. This collaboration between the European Space Agency (ESA) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR.) tries to solves communication delays they are likely to encounter given the environment.
China is using facial recognition tech to send its citizens a penalty if they misuse pedestrianized areas and ignore local traffic laws. The Chinese Ministry of Public Security are using technology company Intellifusion to profile each of their citizens in order to build a social credit score of how ‘trustworthy’ each person is. The penalties will be sent to the ‘offender’ in real-time via text and social media now they are partnered with social networks and mobile carriers.
