faster than light communication?

in #science7 years ago

so, the BBC are reporting that the chinese have managed to transmit information to a satellite using quantum entanglement... from the little that i understand about quantum physics, that implies that the communication was instant. entangled particles apparently respond to changes in each other long before any normal speed of light communication can occur between them, hence the mystery... so, it seems that they could be on the path to superluminal communication... groovy...

i guess the question is, have china beaten the west with this, or has the US had similar tech up and running in secret for a while now? encryption is going to a whole new level. The stuff we're allowed to use is so last century. Are there already secret quantum computers hidden away that are able to crack it all in seconds? i guess we'll never know...

i realise that it was a tenuous link, but used it as i was talking about china... perhaps any chinese readers with english language skills would be interested in seeing what the BBC is saying... ?
