Wow.
Ibn al-Haytham who first documented the world-changing idea that hypotheses must be rigorously proved by repeatable experiments and observations. Alhazen questioned his predecessors and all accepted ideas - including Ptolemy's.

Yes, this is something everyone should know; yet Alhazen is sidelined in the history books.
Cos its normal for the west to try to lay claim to being the (only) source of the modern civilization :)
