Sea shells

A sea shell is a protective outer layer created by an animal that lives in the sea and forms part of the body of an animal. Most of times the shells are empty because the animal has died and another animal has eaten it. All shells have a different shape and can be plain, smooth, adorned with spikes etc. All this shapes have a purpose, ward of predators. Shells are also used for hermits, that use them to protect their soft abdomens. The oldest known hermit was discovered in 2002 and dated around 130 million years ago.
