Global Warming and Climate Change, What Can Be Done?

in #self-power5 years ago

Hello everyone here again your friend @junior182

This time I come to participate and at the same time invite you to participate in the second writing contest promoted by upmewhale Global warming and climate change, what can be done? brings us a very important issue that affects all living beings that have not yet raised awareness about this issue.

Global warming

Global warming is nothing more than the increase in temperature on the earth that has occurred as time goes by, this is caused by the emissions of gases that are produced naturally or derived from the activities of the human being the atmosphere, causing the greenhouse effect to increase and that there are many changes in the climate.

For studies carried out in certain parts of the earth there is data on how it is in previous times it has cooled and warmed but in a slower way, in a time of 650 thousand years there have been almost 7 cycles between freezing of continents cooling to the land of high temperatures that has existed before but to produce that effect they spent a lot of time, since the production of these gases was slower, they were naturally, but since the industrial era gases have been produced without any control their effects have been manifested major changes in heating, which could produce another ice age or strong effects that could extinguish every living being.
Its main causes are:

  • Greenhouse gases: Those gases that accumulate in the planet's atmosphere; This in turn aims to maintain the energy that is emitted once the soil is heated by the sun. These occur both naturally and by man, the first comes from volcanic activities or evaporation of ocean water. While the second comes from the great consequence since the time of industrialization.

  • Fertilizer: The improper use of some fertilizers with nitrogen chemicals that goes into the atmosphere causing much more heat to be produced.

  • Fossil Fuels: These are the fumes that constantly emanate from industrial activities causing a great deterioration in impact on the natural environment.

  • Forest Fires: These are some of the consequences that are most affected for global warming, due to the great decrease in our green lungs who help maintain a carbon dioxide stability in the atmosphere.

  • Deforestation: These are some of the activities that man does the most to the earth because it results in destruction of the soil, damage to the habitat, affects the water cycle.

Global warming effects

  • Increase in temperature: Creating extreme heat waves, an environment not suitable for living beings or food, thawing at the poles, this producing an increase in sea level, making islands disappear and space reductions in countries near the sea.

  • Species extinction.

  • Less rainfall producing large droughts.

  • Hurricanes of greater intensification.

  • Spread of diseases.

Climate changes

They are the different changes that can exist in weather patterns on planet earth, such as in wind patterns, in temperature, rain, snowfall among others, that exist in the earth's climate. Climate change can also be defined as a global phenomenon that threatens to transform planet Earth. But since the 80's the earth has been undergoing very noticeable changes and this is the warming that has been increasing rapidly, this due to greenhouse gases these gases are in the atmosphere where its function is to block the heat that is received from the sun and it does not escape again to the outside. These gases can be:

  • Water vapor.

  • Carbon dioxide.

  • Methane.

  • Nitrous oxide.

  • Chlorofluorocarbon

Greenhouse effect

Before knowing what the greenhouse effect is, we detail how the atmosphere is formed, this is a layer that is located 16 kilometers from the earth, this in turn has a great mixture of gases which are oxygen, nitrogen, argon, steam of water, carbon dioxide (but in small quantities). The greenhouse effect is the combination of these gases but in particular one of them produces a behavior of passing sunlight through the atmosphere until it reaches the surface causing it to heat emits a heat to the outside but the accumulated gases does not allow This comes out and is sent again and is trapped to the surface causing the temperature to rise, so the greenhouse effect is gases that let in sunlight but does not let radiation out by heating the Surface of the planet.

For some people when the issue of the greenhouse effect is touched upon, they see it as the worst thing that the earth is going through, or that because of that effect the earth is experiencing strong climatic changes that had not been seen before since the time of human appearance, but if we know the greenhouse effect in turn, it is not completely bad, because without it, life on earth would not exist, since if the temperature would be average, any light that entered would go out into space without any heat retention , having a temperature almost approximately 18 degrees below zero, resulting in a freezing of water and land making an empty land without vegetables, animals or humans, a climate not suitable for life, but if these gases begin to increase without any control, then it would be too hot, producing drought, thawing of the poles resulting in a non-habitable environment, then it cannot be eliminated by comp I can't even see so much gas.

Anthropocene

This is the term attributed to the new era of geology where it is detailed how human beings have generated great negative impacts, causing a degradation of the environment in a very fast way to our planet earth. These main causes

Energy production: Are the energy produced by humans and used as coal, oil and natural gas, resulting in the emission of large amounts of greenhouse gases. (CO2, CH4, N2O) main causes of global warming.

Consumption of resources: Population growth so rapidly makes greater use of natural resources, which currently exceeds the ability of the land to regenerate it. This resulting in change in the water cycle, destruction of the ecosystem, extreme weather events, acidification of the oceans, deforestation of forests.

What can we do

We already know the definition of each of these elements, and its causes now we have a very important question that we can ask to minimize these effects, because we cannot eliminate something completely that has been dragging for a long time and until the beloved land did not show its effects We have not done anything against these negatives. Worldwide there has been an agreement to fight climate change such as:

  • First World Conference: This was held in Geneva in 1979, which was intended to publicize how global warming would affect human activity, this was convened by the World Meteorological Organization.

  • Creation of the commission on the environment and development of the United Nations (1983).

  • Creation of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Climate Change: This was created in 1988, this was aimed at analyzing, comprehensive, objective, open and transparent all information from the scientific and economic field to clarify the risks of climate change.

  • Second World Climate Conference: This was in the year 1990, which is published in the evaluation report where the IPCC and the second World Climate Conference require worldwide agreements.

  • First meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee: This was held in 1991.

  • United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (1992).

  • The UNFCCC enters into force (1994)

  • The first Conference of the parties (COP1) was held in Berlin (1995), which was intended to examine the application regularly.

  • The UNFCCC Secretariat is created to support the measures taken under the Convention. (nineteen ninety six).

  • The Kyoto Protocol (1997) is created. Where 38 countries plus the European Union are committed to reduce emissions of six gases by 5 percent.

  • COP7 establishes the legal aspects of the Kyoto protocol (2001)

  • Russia joins the Kyoto Protocol and enters into force, but with the absence of 4 large gas emitting countries.

  • The fourth report for the IPCC evaluation is published (2005)

  • Paris Agreement (2015). The Paris Agreement, this was made on December 12, 2015, in Paris, an agreement was signed that contains a plan detailing the limits of the warming of our planet below 2 ° C, which entered into force in the 2016.

This is a small chronology that they have done on climate changes at an international level, some accepting them, others not, have fulfilled, without having much importance the damage that is being done to the planet.

What can we do individually?

We must work together to reduce the effects of greenhouse gases, in order to offer our children a planet where they can continue to live, we can not remain with our hands crossed only by the simple fact that your neighbor does not do it, or the great politicians they don't take a letter in the matter, each one putting our sand granite we can diminish those effects. How can we help:

  • Use public transport.
  • Use renewable energy,
  • Recycle.
  • Help raise awareness in your home, in your community and school.
  • Reduce and reuse natural resources.
  • Energy efficiency.
  • Less use of cars.
    -Renewable energy.
