#4 Motivation #1
Hello everybody.
As promised, we are going to start our discussion about motivation. This area is huge and can go on forever but like everything, it has to start somewhere.
Motivation is the "why" we want to achieve a goal. In my earlier post, we looked at fear. This is my starting point because it is one of the 2 emotions that all motivation is based on. That's sounds too easy to be true. Could it be?
Yes, it is true. When we trace back to why we want to do things it comes down to love and fear. Many schools of thought have confirmed this binary way of understanding this idea. This is probably why you can see all kinds of binary symbols around you. As above, so below, Black and white, yang and ying and so on.
Assuming this is true, we already have tools to neutralize fear (in my post #1) but what about love? If you are having trouble getting or staying motivated try asking yourself is your goal important to you because of love or fear.
Analyze your goals. Break them up into small pieces. Explore why you have to succeed. Defining what category it falls into will help you choose the best plan to succeed.
Motivational coaches always ask the question, how important is this goal and what are you willing to sacrifice to achieve it? This is critical to success but it is also the point where a monetary offering is demanded to prove your commitment. The offering is excellent at solidifying your resolve to complete what you just paid for. It is even better for the person you paid. An unethical coach will milk the unsuspecting student for all he can. This has turned off people who quickly discover they are being taken advantage of.
I was born to teach. I help myself by helping others. I understand how the offering dynamic helps the student succeed. It is like crossing the Rubicon. When you have invested so much time, money and effort, you have invested too much to even consider failure. This is why it helps but can also be used to exploit the knowledge differential.
Do not be afraid. You now know the secret of the bussiness. Use this knowledge on yourself and you will achieve your goals and no one will take advantage of you. Keep in mind, money isn't always what is asked as payment.
In review, we must understand why we want to achieve a goal. Is it for love or out of fear? What are we willing to sacrifice to achieve it? Finally, make that sacrifice. Make sure it is important enough so you would not even consider quitting or failure.
Please ask any questions below. This is just a skeleton. Your comments and questions will give it muscle.
