There are many SEO specialist in the world working hard and getting great results, but at end of the month the client is still not satisfied with the results, because they don’t know how to report and show the metrics that matter to the client.
Reports are the most important service of the industry, if you can’t show your results then why should the client keep investing in SEO?
Reports are meant to show the impact you’re leaving on clients business.
So what should you include in your reports, which metrics are important for client? Does the client care that you have invested have of your time and haven’t brought any results? Most likely not.
So which are the metrics we should include? Which metrics does the client actually care about?
Traffic
Clicks
Impressions
Average position
Position for exact keywords
Overall results
If somebody is paying for your services, then it’s pretty likely that your client will want some form of evidence that you have done something!
What do you need to write reports in Data Studio?
You need an account at Data Studio.
You need access to Search Console.
You can use Data Studio for multiple reasons not just for SEO reports, you can also write AdWords, Facebook, Analytics, Youtube reports.
After you have logged into Data Studio it will ask you to add a data source:

We’re going to choose “Search Console”
We’re going to be available to report for 4 metrics:

Clicks, Impressions, Site CTR and Average Position.
We can use these metrics in multiple ways. We can also compare them to time periods we choose by using Data Studio Calendar.
For clients it will be important how many clicks and impressions they got from SEO channel and they will be happy to see the progress from previous month.
We can also use these metrics in time series:
So we can monitor it daily and look for spikes and drops. If we receive a drop or a spike we can look into it deeper to find what work or what didn’t work and adjust quickly so it doesn’t leave an impact on overall results.
Device category:
We can monitor devices by category. Why would we want that? Maybe there’s a bug in mobile version or in tablet version and we can quickly avoid upcoming problem.
Most important part – follow the keywords you actually want to rank for, monitor your search query:

When you going to implement Search Query it’s going to show all the keywords you rank for, so they are going to be thousands of them, even those who are in 150+ position, so how to only follow the keywords you’re interested in and trying to rank?
Create a filter.
Any chart, table, metric you add to SEO report, you’re going to able to create a filter for it.

There are other option to include in your reports.
If you are using ahref for your reports to check backlink count you can also implement it into Data Studio. You’re going to need API from ahref and implement it in google spreadsheets before you can implement it into Data Studio. (You can choose spreadsheets as a source)
