The Man in the High Castle - Season 1

in #series5 years ago

What would it be like if Nazi Germany had won World War II and, as a result, they were able to take over a large part of the world together with their allies? Well, we don't have to imagine it anymore, we can see it. The Man in the High Castle is a dystopic series that takes place in a totally different world where the Nazis and the Japanese have taken over the entire American territory having won the war and having conquered large portions of the world territory in an escalation of warlike violence wonderful from the visual and argumental point of view.

The Man in the High Castle is a super dramatic and deep series so don't expect a simple plot to understand where all the facts are developed in a linear chronology, in this series we will see hundreds of flashbacks and artistic recreations of events that we will never finish exploring in detail. The series basically starts from the fact that the United States has been totally conquered by Germany and its Japanese allies, something that we don't get to see but that is presented to us through certain characteristic elements that allow us to explore in a certain way the achievement of facts that led to the fall of what today would be the most powerful country in the world.

Well, the series begins and develops entirely in a vintage world set in a post-war era where we see the streets of New York and other cities in the United States crowded with advertising and allusions to Nazi greatness, everything feels like a great Nazi theme festival that took over the United States completely and permanently. The first thing I have to say is that visually the series is fantastic, the way in which the creators managed to fuse the German culture of the time with some Japanese elements is impressive because it allows us to see the incredible cultural division that has originated in a country that now serves two masters, a country where censorship is something extremely intense and controlled by the security forces.

The plot of the series allows us to appreciate the different contrasts of this new world controlled by Germans and Japanese, a world where the slightest sign of insurgency results in an exemplary punishment that is usually the death, and above all a world where the greatest incentive of those who still do not lose the hope of regaining freedom is a film that tells what would have happened if the Nazi Germans and Japanese had not won the war. The series uses as a fundamental element to motivate those who wish to fight to recover their country a film that if propagated can cause a lethal impact on the "order" that the Germans have established, an order that is based on the subjugation of people through constant threats.

The really great thing about the series is to see all the constant escalations that some of the protagonists have to overcome to escape the clutches of the repressive forces of the Nazi state and thus be able to carry a message of hope that they hope to spread in order to sow a sense of freedom and especially of struggle in people who are in total disagreement with the way in which the Nazis are managing the United States. Another great element is to see the political nuances that develop in a country dominated by two political models because we basically see the way the Nazis oppress their side through super harsh censorship policies, while the Japanese handle their side of the country with a less firm and indirect hand where violence and oppression is handled behind closed doors.

The whole series is handled under a veil of constant mystery where basically we feel immersed in a kind of atmosphere of spies and suspense where at any time any of the characters could be captured or killed, yes, this is a series that develops the characters very well but at any time can disappear through subtly plots launched to blow our heads off. At times the rhythm of the series is super slow, but that is something to be expected because the plot is presented as something very complex that needs to be developed little by little so that it does not feel unreal, after all we are talking about a totally new world and that challenges anything we know of history.

Personally, this is a series that I really liked because of the different ways in which he plays with the plot and with the characters constructing all kinds of conspiracies and betrayals around events that we never anticipated.
