7 Day Beer Challenge: Day 4 - Waffle Stout

Day 4 is here, Night 4 I should say. Had a great delivery tonight from one of my good friends, when I decided to trade one of the Hop Butcher (see previous post) for one of his beers.

The beer is from Bearded Iris, a prestigious brewery located in Nashville, Tennessee. My buddy recently went to their 3 year anniversary. I was supposed to go, but work got in the way that weekend. I missed out! They had so many great releases come out, but luckily he brought some back for me!

It is called Waffle Talk, an Imperial Oatmeal Stout, with Maple Syrup, Vanilla, and Lactose. If you look closely, anew logo sticker has been placed on the an. This is because the original font for the logo was in the same font as the famous “Waffle House” restaurant chain. They received a cease and desist order so they had to quickly change it out of fear of getting sued.

The stout base is rich in that meal-ey and breakfast-ey way, typical breakfast stout fashion, Really milky and smooth, with just the right amount of vanilla and maple syrup. Definitely not overpowering. The highlight of this beer is the super silky texture and waffle-like characteristics. Really flavorful palate but overall quite light body, coming in at 9.6%, it’s just a very well-rounded stout but deliver huge on stout goodness. My kind of beer.
