Okay, let's start with some statistics. About 11% out of 100% of Nigerians are still virgins at age 18, but that includes quite a few people who will never marry.
Only about 3% of all Nigerians are still virgins on their wedding day, and most of those who are virgins when they marry get married quite young. Another roughly estimation is that 20% are virgins until they have sex with their future spouses. I mean they have sex only with their spouses, but they "jump the gun," having sex before the wedding. Again, many of those people are quite young when they marry.
Looking at these numbers, particularly the 3% figure, it is easy for people from traditional cultures to assume that Nigerians are all promiscuous.
What they miss is that sexuality for most people here is still governed by strong moral codes. It's just that those are not codes which regard sex before marriage as an immoral act.

For some girls virginity is something sacred and special. Something to only be shared with their potential soul mate. Something so beautiful that they can’t imagine “losing” it to just some guy.
For other girls virginity is nothing. It doesn’t mean anything to them either because they’re going to lose it as soon as they can, or because they just don’t care. In other words they’re not going to rush to have sex, but they’re not going to say no just because of virginity.
The same is likely true of guys. I think most guys over the age of 18 aren’t really going to care one way or the other if a girl is a virgin or not. Sure there’s a small minority that will literally pay big bucks to have sex with a virgin and there’s another small minority that won’t have sex with a virgin, but most people are in rush to have six..
