Of ship and port

in #ship5 years ago

Good day everyone

Today I have arrived at Hainan, China.

We spent 7 hours navigating thru the qianzhou strait. The traffic was okay, but things were slow due to the maximum speed requirement of 10 knots.

10 knots is roughly 20km per hour.
I hope that get things Into perspective. Ships are big but slow.

For this route, we did not travel far. Only from Malaysia to Hainan, China. The trip took us around 5 days, with average speed of 10 knots.

Imagine going on a road trip with average speed of 20km per hours. That's how it feels like to sail at sea.

With the endless blue sky and sea, even the most simple and humble of views at the port become attractive to our depraved minds.

To end this piece, I am attaching three pictures of a monument near the jetty that my ship moored at. As usual, it is a zoomed in photo using my phone telelens.

Its a pyramid like structure, which the pilot claims to be of approximately 300 years of age. The small monument looks awkward besides a modern gas terminal, though slightly hard to notice.

A wide lens picture of the general area. You cannot really see the structure.
