Not all that glitters is Gold - Or how Companies think we are stupid...
A while ago we went to the store because we desperately needed a strainer for boiling pasta and also for Veggies.
We were in this German brand name store called "Depot", which sells everything home related from Kitchen Utensils to home decorations.
There we saw a lovely strainer that we then bought and paid 13 Euros for. Its the one on the right side.
Within a Month, the handle of the strainer had broken off and the strainer became quite useless. In other words: It was a cheap piece of trash.
It was at that moment I noticed how cheap this strainer we had paid 13 Euros for really was.
A couple of days later we found a Strainer for only 3 Euros, its the one on the left.
It has lasted and lasted and lasted until now.
Notice its construction:
The handle is made to completely wrap around the strainer, thus holding it firmly at all times. Additionally there are two Extrusions which allow the Strainer to be put up onto something so one does not even have to hold it.
It is much more durable and much more useful....
I guess I learned a valuable life lesson: Not all that glitters is gold!
