The Wonderful Markets of Mexico

in #shopping7 years ago

One of the joys of Mexico are the local markets where you can find many, many things from fresh vegetables and fruits to freshly made cheese to fresh fish and meat. When you go regularly you develop favourite venders. One would think that organics would be easy to find here but the reality is it is a niche market still. If you know that the produce was grown locally in the mountains by people who can't afford the pesticides it may be ok. The same type of offerings is often all in the same area which seems odd but the norm here. For sure the supermarket experience in Latin America is way different than Safeway or Walmart.

They have stuff stores here too! Trinkets and toys and tourist items. Some things are made locally but many things are imported as well. We do have world trade with items from China and other places, too.

My favourite aisle at the market is where the flower vendors are. Always a pleasant experience searching out some inexpensive flowers to enjoy. I like to have fresh flowers in the house and here it is affordable to do so.

Clothing and shoes are also on display and readily available.

They even have animals.... sadly.

I tend to avoid the flesh aisles of beef, pork, chicken and fish.... the smells alone make it challenging for me.

We also tend to stop for a taco or sope or some other simple and delicious meal at one of the many eating places there.
The market here seldom closes, I think only for Christmas Day and one day dedicated to fumigation every year.
Fun place to go any time of the year!
