Saving Money Shopping with Ebates and RetailMeNot

in #shopping6 years ago

It is the time of year when a lot of people are shopping for gifts, so I wanted to suggest two tools that I use to save money. AFAIK these are for people in the US, although I haven't really checked to see if they work in other countries.

Ebates

If you do any online shopping, then using Ebates is highly recommended. Basically the way it works is you signup for their service, and then use their links to visit online shopping websites like Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, etc. If you use their link for a qualfying purchase, they give you a small percentage of cash back.

The cashback amount you receive is usually 1-3% of the total purchase price, but sometimes it can be more. AFAIK there is no minimum amount to receive a payout. They have sent me a check for $0.25 before.

You can signup here: ebates.com.
Note: ^ this is an affiliate link. If you use it to signup, then we both get extra money once you use your account the first time to get cash back :)

RetailMeNot

RetailMeNot is an App/website that checks a store to see if there are any coupons you can use. I pretty much check this app every time I am waiting in line at a store to see if there are any available coupons. It is simple to use, and no strings attached.

I have been using both of these services for several years now and have saved hundreds of dollars. I hope this post helps some of you save some extra money as well :)

Happy Holidays!

Are these specific to a region, like US ?

As I said in the post, I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure they are US based, but if you live elsewhere you can still check them out and see if they work in your area.

Any idea on what stuff were fired on the Steem Inc re org? Will it affect development of SMT?

Yes, SMT will be delayed. There is a lot of info if you read through the comments and responses here: https://steemit.com/steem/@ned/2fajh9-steemit-update

I've heard of these sights, as if they've just been sort of in my peripheral online view, but haven't known anyone who uses them, so it is good to know they are legit and work. I'm in the US part of the year, though not at Christmas. But, each year I've been doing less and less 'shopping' at Christmas and more just experiencing the season.

These are good sights to now in general, however, as I even order groceries online sometimes.

Oh, man. That sucks. What about sites like Amazon? I know that for some of my foreign relatives (living in Germany) it wasn't too bad to order something off Amazon and have it shipped there.

It's not that bad, not always, depends on the courier service being used.

But yeah, this sort of thing is something all Aussies who shop online are used to seeing!

But it is a laugh to see this when talking about shopping online!

Same here...
Amazon.com is great, but shipping is LITERALLY the same price as the product, I wanted to buy a new laptop but it is not feaseble with those international shipping fees

You know it just ends up being easier to buy it from a local store with some cool discount going on.
Not always, bought some great fishing rods from The USA last year with free shipping to Australia, so idk if the store made a mistake on their Ebay listing or not, it worked out great.

as business consultant for me this is very important information. i also recommended it for my customers

Top it up with some app to automatically convert the savings or cashback into crypto and I am in haha
Alway good to save pennies, though it does not look like they do add up in the end of the month

It doesn't seem like a lot with individual purchases, but over time it does add up. I've also found quite a few coupons through RetailMeNot that have saved me more than $20 in a single purchase.
