My Hometown "The City of Flooding"
My hometown is Aceh Singkil, Teluk Ambun village for exact. But now, I'm settled in Lhokseumawe city by myself due to study in University of Malikussaleh. It's been a year here, which means so many time I have passed my hometown.
My hometown is not a massive place. It's just small village, surrounded by the palm oil garden. Our local livelihood mostly palm oil farmer and fisherman.
As far as the eye can see, my hometown is mostly overground by palm oil trees. This is what maybe the problem why every year there is always a flood in my hometown. So you do not be suprised by the frequent news in the media about the flood that hit Aceh Singkil. Even now Singkil often dubbed "The City of Flooding". This is the challange for the local government of Aceh Singkil to overcome it that has been a problem of Aceh Singkil for many years.
Nevertheless, I really love my hometown. The best place to come back when I feel tired and need some rest. No matter what happened my hometown is always become the place which welcoming me are kind of situasion. If you have a chance to visiting my hometown, do not hesitate to visit. We will receive and welcoming you with warm heat.
How far back is the history of flooding in your town? Were the floods as bad before the planting of the palm oil trees? Are they getting more frequent with climate change? I think living in a flood prone place must be a real worry. All the best to you and yours.
Thank you for your support. The flood has already hit our city about 15 years, along with the planting of palm trees in our place. Of course climate change also worsen this.
