My entry to @healthsquared and @sweetsssj health contest.
Nigerians love to say, stress na bastard. Stress go kill you, stress dy make person old. Translated to mean stress is bad, stress kills and stress can make you look older than usual.
As a medical student, stress is one of the four corners of studying medicine in Nigeria and if you haven't discovered ways you can de-stress and lift the weight of stress off your shoulders. Trust me, you could breakdown because the trauma of medical school is massive. It ranges from sleepless nights to endless studying and then when the input and sacrifice isn't yielding a productive output which is good grades then a vicious stress cycle occurs and the release of large quantities of stress hormones like cortisol into your bloodstream occurs. Remember cortisol and it's weight gaining properties. Now coupled with the stress, you begin to lose shape and gain weight which could in turn affect your self esteem and further resuce productivity. All in all stress creates a feedback mechanism that is detrimental to overall health of mind and body.

How I de-stress

Yoga!!!

It works perfectly in easing those stress centres in my head. Im not perfect at yoga yet but the little yoga i do maybe for 30minutes can reduce those bad ass stress hormones in my system! And keeps my brain working at optimum speedIMG_20180206_130028_388.JPG

bead making

This is another skill that I not only enjoy but has a way of keeping me at peace with myself and my environment. IMG-20180203-WA0010.jpgI can't completely explain how it works on my brain. But usually after a stressful activity. I just settle in a corner to start making necklaces. It's really a stress detox.
Thanks for an opportunity to participate in this week's contest
