RE: Small Livestock for Small Land Owners
Excellent post. I've tried goats (unsuccessfully) and pigs (successfully). Also turkeys for a while. Now just chickens, ducks and one goose.
Bees are on their way. Really want to try fish when I can work out the best way.
Thank you! I would recommend starting small with fish so you can figure out what works best in your home. For example, we purchased a small 5-gallon aquaponic tank. The water pump is tiny and the tank can only support two female beta fish. But even so, we have amaranth growing in the sprouting pots!
Having this small tank also brought to our attention that we can't, at the current time, create a large aquaponic system on our small property. That's okay though! Best of luck with your future endevors!
Thanks. We are lucky to have a small lake. I would like to add trout - but they are all non breeding (triploids?) here so you have to keep adding new ones. We might try carp, but not so good to eat I believe.
