Smarcash Beer. How to Brew Beer
Hello Smarties, this post it's part of the series where we are documenting the development of our proposal with Smartcash, the Smartcash Beer. Follow up, we'll describe how to brew beer.
Well, after we ordered the ingredients to brew beer, we received them. We were so happy and excited.
Best of all, the yellow caps!!!, we'll have the beer with the caps in Smartcash-yellow color.
This is not a technical article about brewing, and I just want to explain a little bit about the brewing process and document the execution of the proposal. (We are so excited!!!)
To brew beer, you need, Barley Malt, Hops, Water and Yeast. Once the recipe is designed and the ingredientes are selected, we should start the brewing process, these are the steps:
-Milling the grain
-Mashing
-Boiling
-Fermentation and Maturing
We mill the grain to expose to water, the cells of the interior of the grain. Barley malt has a lot of carbohydrates and enzymes, in contact with water, the enzymes break down the complex carbohydrates into smaller sugars, just like maltose and glucose.
After milling the grain, the next step is Mashing, mashing is just like making a tea with hot water for 60 minutes, the water temperature should be around 67 celsius degrees. At this temperature the enzimes, alpha amylase and beta amylase will break down starch into sugars like maltotriose, maltose and glucose.
The water gets flavor and color from the malt, and we get a very sweet liquid, with a nice aroma and flavor, called wort.
After mashing the grains in water, we should drain the wort into the boiler tank, we use a false bottom to left behinf the spent grains.
We boil the wort for 60 minutes and we add hops. Hops are flowers that deliver bitterness, flavor and aroma.
In the latest minutes of the boiling process, we add an special ingredient, orange zest.
During the boiling process, several chemical reactions take place, this contributes to the final beer flavor.
Mmm, smells good, trust me.
When we finish the boiling process, we cool down the wort, and we drain it to the fermentation tank, we'll pitch yeast. Yeast is a living fungus, and it will metabolize sugars into CO2 and Ethanol.
The fermentation and maturing process takes weeks. Depending on the beer style could take between 2 weeks to 6 months or more.
In this case, we'll wait for 3 weeks, so we can bottle and distribute the beer.
That's it for now, because we have to make the hardest process, cleaning.
Cheers!
