China's Social Credit System

in #social7 years ago

Pekín plans to install their Social Credit Initiative on 2020 with the objective of evaluating the viality of the system itself on its more than 1300 million citizens.

It is easy to ignore the fact that, nowadays, with the very own help of the technology that has granted us so many perks and comfort to our lives, we are also being constantly monitored, profiled based on what we watch, what we buy and what we post in our Social Media profiles. And the fact is, that for the moment being, is used mostly for marketing purposes, which is why it is simple to ignore that ever watching eye above us, however, in China this is soon going to take a turn you could easily see happening in a dystopian fantasy novel.

The basic outline of the initiative is easy to understand, aspects of the lives of Chinese Citizens will be evaluated and represent either positive or negative points. Such aspects will include level of education, our connections, the friends we have, which means that citizens privileged with an advantaged social sphere will possess a greater social credibility , even taxes will be evaluated in this. The resulting score citizens achieve will dictate and merit them citizen privileges, including whether or not they can get a mortgage, get a determined type of job or enroll their offspring in determined school institutions.

I, for one, am curious as to what type of society might await us in the future. For if this initiative proves successful, the possibility of other countries taking after this model is relatively high. With nothing more to add, i encourage you to type out your thoughts on the comments!
