To be anonymous on Steemit or not?

in #social7 years ago

Quick thought..

I've noticed some of you have chosen to use your (assumedly) real names for your Steemit profiles. Considering the anonymous nature of the blockchain, and the potential for social blockchain apps only recently starting to reveal itself.. is this a wise decision?

Perhaps this is a somewhat obtuse and irrelevant question currently, but I think there's a chance that in the future this consideration could perhaps grow in significance.

Curious if anyone else has given this consideration?

Obviously, I chose the anonymous route. Before encountering it on Steemit, I wouldn't even have considered using my real identity on a blockchain app because, upon initial observations, it seems counterintuitive.

That said, perhaps there is some merit to the idea.

If we are indeed at the dawn of social blockchain networks, it seems probable that having a well developed personal profile with built up reputation will become a valid strategy for societal advancement. In which case may as well get ahead of the game.

Online reputation has already become increasingly important in developed societies. One can only assume that the foundational purpose of crypto as an open, pubic, and immutable ledger will advance and evolve online reputation in an accelerated fashion..

I think it's an interesting thought, and would be interested in hearing the community's thoughts on the matter.
