What is wrong in the software industry? Part I - Giving some context

in #software-industry6 years ago (edited)

I've watched this video from Uncle "Bob" Martin, the creator of Agile and at a first glance I would say that watching his talk was a complete waste of 1h30 of my time. However it gave me some insights of the problems of the software industry.

First "Bob" is one of the creators of the Agile Manifesto, now it is by far the mainstream development methodology and he deserves some credit for that, since it is far better than its predecessor, Waterfall. However, developer's lives in the latest years since Agile's widespread adoption became anything but happier, this is not really Agile's fault, life of every employee became more miserable, there is a new class called the Precariat which really deserves a post by itself.
The problem with Agile is that it actually became a brand and it is seen by many developers as their saviour and the be-all solution for the development world specially if it is adopted together with some DevOps methodology. These are today without any doubt a necessity for any IT organization. However, satisfying a need is not guarantee of the thriving of a business, lest of its employees.

In the next part I will really start the analysis of the video
