Steem Lighting Africa: A Propose Budget to Install 3.5KVA Solar PV In Uyo High School, Uyo - Nigeria [14th May, 2024]
After a successful installation of the previous Steem lighting Africa project two months ago here in Nigeria, it's about time to get another solar install in another school.
Steem lighting Africa project is going to be a sustainable project that would solve a good percentage of the electricity challenges in schools here in Nigeria and other part of the African countries. Contacts/networks to these various places are at hand in other to make smooth sustainable projects with solar systems.
And now, it's about time to light another school.
It would interest you to know that the manager of @steemelectricals in the person of @ubongudofot went for an inspection today at the propose school which happens to be in the city of Uyo.
Electricity is one of the biggest challenge in Africa and as one of his biggest dream to make a little change on planet earth he wants to install as many solar power points as possible with any possible means within his reach.
This would be a good way to tell the world about Steem and to help solve few human problems, perhaps, using a blockchain like Steem. He believes he can do little things that make big changes through Steem and he also believes that Steem can make the sun rise.
So Steem lighting Africa" is embarking on another solar project in Nigeria with the aim of installing a 3.5KVA, 12V solar PV system in a secondary school and here are the details below:
School:
Uyo high school is a public secondary school that was established in the year 1983 in the city of Uyo. It has trained so many prominent people in the state. It is a mixed-gender school (boys and girls).
They have a computer laboratory in the school. But sometimes, electricity becomes a problem.

With the Principal of the school and the I.C.T teacher
I took just about 20 minutes to educate them about solar. Even though the principal was busy in the school with the ongoing W.A.E.C examination, he still create time for this and was so happy for this innovation that is coming up.
Inspecting panel mounting point
It is a one storey building. I am considering mounting it at the top of the roof. This would help in high efficiency of charging, however, it may consume much wire...., that's almost 20ft.
Explaining how projects like this are funded to the ICT teacher
He was curious to know more. And that was a beautiful time to talk about Steem and Steem lighting Africa project.
Teaching the students the basics/ important of solar PVs
Unfortunately, it appears a good number of them have a little knowledge about solar systems. However, the class was interactive. I spent just 25 minutes here giving this lecture. At the end of it, most of them wants to choose electrical/electronics engineering as their career and also a solar engineer.
They said, they wants to be like me, but I told them to be even more better than me and I know they can!
Budget
Quantity | Item | Naira | ≈ Steem |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 3.5KVA, 12V Inverter | 351,000 | 880 |
2 | Tubular battery | 500,000 | 1254 |
1 | 60A MPPT Charge Controller | 90,000 | 226 |
4 | 200Watt Canadian Solar Panel | 574,560 | 1440 |
. | Cable/Rack/Accessories | 155,000 | 389 |
. | Transportation | 30,000 | 75 |
. | Labour | Steem electricals | |
Total | 1,700,560 | 4,264 |
This system would be able to power at least 14 computers.
Installing this will help them to carry out most of their computer practice. It will be a good thing to also educate them on what solar Photovoltaic is all about.
Project Implementation Stages
After the disbursement of Funds, the project is scheduled to go through the stages below:
- Shipping the equipment and materials to the site from the depot/shop.
- Installation of the system with students
- Testing of the system
- Launching ceremony
All would be published here for fairness.
We hope forward to realizing this project through your various contributions.
Updates on the progress would be publish here weekly.

Thank you for that. Much appreciated..
This is another great step. Looking at the school, their ICT laboratory is well equipped with computers but can it function without light? Absolutely NO!
Steem electricals is here to light the world and I believe that this school will also share in that GOODNESS.
Many success in this project.

Thank you for your good wishes!
Another project at hand, I know how big this school is wow the students will be so happy to have constant light for learning. I believe you will definitely carry this out successfully, you have my full support.
Thank you. Great to know you would like to support.
