WaterTower Music has released the original motion picture soundtrack for Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle, the reinvention of Rudyard Kipling’s beloved The Jungle Book by acclaimed actor and director Andy Serkis, in which a boy torn between two worlds accepts his destiny and becomes a legend...

Nitin Sawhney (Breathe; Human Planet; Live at Ronnie Scott's) throws everything into the score for Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle. The result is a beautiful mix of styles, some engaging, memorable themes and some interesting songs. The music, like the story, transforms from one geographical landscape to another and the change in pace and texture incredible well realised.

While this is a score you'll get the most out of if you're a fan of the movie, it does work just as well as a collection of tracks in its own right. The album contains 32 tracks (1 hr, 12 min, 13 sec) and as well as Sawhney's lush score, it also includes a handful of songs: 'Lori (Lullaby)' with vocals by Nicki Wells and three versions of 'Changes' sung by Kara Marni.

Talking about the project, Sawhney said: "The challenge of creating a fresh musical vocabulary and theme that would entice us into Mowgli’s universe was irresistible. That Andy Serkis was directing made it an unforgettable experience in the waiting. Andy is nothing short of a genius. The stunning film, of stellar performances and endlessly epic scenes, scored itself."

Overall it's a rich score with a beautiful soul.

8/10
