Soundtrack Sunday - Mayans MC

in #soundtracksunday6 years ago (edited)

Today's #soundtracksunday is going to focus on the FX television show Mayans MC. With the Season 1 finale just ending earlier this month, I was able to catch up on all of the episodes and must say that while somewhat disappointed in the series around the third or fourth episode, the writers stepped up and made this show somewhat enjoyable. Granted, I am still a huge Sons of Anarchy fan, I was excited to see this spin-off and hope to see some cameos from the remaining members of SAMCRO. What I didn't expect from FX, was the more than occasional use of the F word that aired, but kudos to them for having the guts to air that and some of the other language that was used.

While this show centers on the Latino biker club, the Mayans, I had to do several pauses to read some of the subtitles to try not to miss anything in the show. It started on a good note, ended on a good note and the character development throughout the show gradually increased and I was pleasantly surprised by how fast Kurt Sutter and his group of writers developed some of the characters that first started off in the series as to be there just as a background act, but later gave them storylines. So, without delaying any further, let's hear some songs from Mayans MC.

We are going to start things off with the opening credits, which obviously is only a portion of the song. You can hear the full song by searching YouTube, but warning, some of the curse (swear) words are changed from the opening credits.

1.Nunca performed by David Hidalgo, Los Refugios Tiernos. If the voice sounds familiar, I believe this is the same David Hidalgo who sang for Los Lobos.

2.Daddy Rollin' Stone performed by The Blasters. The Blasters are a California-based band that formed in 1978 and have an eclectic sound of rock, punk, and rockabilly.

3.Uncontrollable Urge performed by Devo. Yes, you read that right! DEVO! Better known for their hit Whip It, I was actually surprised to hear this song furing a fight scene in one of the earlier episodes, but it was fitting for the scene.

I was surprised at the language, but, like you, I had to slow it down for the subtitles!

Oh, these write-ups have to keep you busy!

Denise, you have no idea. Everything has been so hectic lately that it's hard to even find time to schedule posts. And yeah, I was seriously not expecting the language at first. I even did a double-take when I heard the first "f" bomb dropped.

Thanks so much for the tip!

That was actually one thing that I was always shocked by with Sons of Anarchy. You would have thought they would have used the 'F' word much more than they actually did. In fact, I am not sure they used it once. I guess that just goes to show how much censorship has changed between when it was released and this show.

They didn't. But be warned that Mayans uses it frequently. I was quite surprised.
