first time on Table Mountain | After 21 years of looking at it!

in #southafrica7 years ago (edited)

when you mention cape town the first thing people picture is the iconic Table Mountain, known for its flat surface that makes the mountain resemble...well a table. so for someone who has lived in cape town all his life its considered a sin not to visit the beautiful mountain at-least once in your life. so i decided to finally go see what all the fuss is about. my girlfriend came with and suggested we! take the cable car and not the 5 hour hike up because the cable car is apparently a must on your first time on the mountain and after experiencing the journey up i can fully agree, the cable car ride up was incredible, with a almost areal view of the coast and Atlantic Ocean and its beautiful blue waters. however if your afraid of heights then the hike might be a better option for you because i saw afew people that looked like they were ganna poop there pants... the cable car rotates clockwise so that everyone onboard gets to see a full 360 degrees view. once on the top i was amazed at how flat the top actually is, well i always knew its flat but daamn!! its really flat !! on top there are afew nature trails you can take that area really nice to make use of, walking on a trail i enjoyed the sights of the country but also all the fynbos plants that are indigenous in South Africa. all in all it was a pretty increadible experiance and i encourage any and everyone to visit Table Mountain!!IMG-20171222-WA0095.jpg

yeah sure please do!

Jesus, whoa, easy easy Chuck!

I was born at the foot of that mountain and if the photos we big and hi-res, I'd be able to zoom in and circle 4 places I've lived. My current place is just outside of your one shot.

Glad you finally did that! Remember that you get to ride the cable car for free on your birthday in case you weren't aware.

You are both in great shape, so I do recommend the hike up. It's no easy stroll, but far from impossible. I did it while overweight and more than once!

Once you step over that last bit of rock and onto that plateau, it's a rush man. You feel so high on life and appreciate the view and the beauty of the mountain's unique biome even more. Nothing like tripping out on your own endorphins.

It's also a good idea to choose one ravine for the ascent and another for going down. The ravines on the Southern Suburbs side are covered in indigenous Afromontane forest, much like what you find on the Garden Route. The ones that end up in Kirstencosch are particularly stunning.

wow! i had no idea you can ride it for free on your birthday! thanks so much for your comment. yes i am so keen to hike up now, iv hiked lions head afew times aswell as elephants eye and many other places, nothing clears the head more than an early morning hike! your advice will be heavily considered when we plan on hiking Table Mountain.
