The fastest ship!

in #space7 years ago

A few months ago I came across a story that recounted the odyssey of a probe reaching a comet after a journey of more than 6,400 million kilometers. The probe in question is called Rosetta, and its journey began on March 2, 2004, a distance so large that it made it unthinkable to carry the fuel necessary for that purpose.

This is why scientists thought to use gravity forces to propel the probe until the encounter with the comet. They used the gravity of the earth 3 times and that of Tuesday once to reach the necessary speed.

The comet that was to be studied was the 67P Churyumov-Gerasimenko and had a speed of 55,000 km / h, and when the Rosetta probe reached it had to reduce its speed to position next to the comet.

It was there that curiosity came to me: "If the Earth impulses the probe by means of gravity, at what speed does the Earth travel? So, searching the internet, I found that the average speed of the Earth in its movement of translation around the Sun is 107,280 Km / h. An extremely high speed, so I wanted to compare that speed with other documented ones:

  1) The X-15 is a supersonic aircraft, experimental model of NASA and the US Air Force, manufactured during the boom of the space race. With its 7,274 km / h it is the fastest airplane in history.

  2) The fastest car is a mixture between car and plane. The Thrust Supersonic Car is propelled by two huge lateral turbines and reaches 1,228 km / h, which brings it to the highest speed in land vehicles.

  3) Apollo 10 reached the highest speed attained by a human being. It was during the return of his trip to the moon, when they reached the incredible figure of 39.897 km / h.

Enjoy then this wonderful trip, at this enormous speed, in the largest ship we have, accompanied by all other humans !!!!!
