The Great American Solar Eclipse!

On August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse will occur across a narrow path of the U.S., from Oregon to Charleston, S. C. A total solar eclipse has not happened in the U.S. since 1918, and there will be many eclipse viewing events across the country, as well as a live video streaming of it on NASA's website. It is essential to wear solar eclipse viewing glasses to prevent eye damage and even blindness! You can buy them on Amazon or in optical stores, and some of the eclipse events are giving them out for free. During a solar eclipse, the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, and blocks out all direct sunlight, turning the day into darkness! Daytime animals & birds will retreat, and nocturnal animals & sounds will appear, as well as the temperatures dropping. In the WNC area, the total solar eclipse will occur at about 2:00 or 2:30 P.M., and last for 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 minutes. Partial solar eclipse viewing will be visible for longer and cover a much wider area than the totality path, across almost the entire U.S.!
