Can you link me to the posts where @smooth upvoted his buddies?
https://steemd.com/@smooth-e, look at this I can find more, but just as an example if I'm not mistaken here he is actually upvoting his downvotes.
Did you check this out? Am I right or did I read something wrong there?
Smooth-e is upvoting because a bot has been downvoting smooth's comment about experiment.
It's important that people who get downvoted get the memo but because someone didn't like the experiment he has been downvoting smooth. But this doesn't mean smooth is upvoting his buddies.
If you have more example as you claim Ill gladly look into it.
But what does @smooth care about anyone downvoting him, supposedly he's not doing it for profit, it's just an experiment, to me it sounds kind of being a hypocrite, cause he is making money off of this downvoting while screwing people who are actually adding value to the platform. I believe about 98% of the people on Steemit are sick and tired of this all you'll get is most good authors are going to walk away, is that what tehse whales want? Cause if it is, then their is an ulterior and unknown motive for this downvoting, and what they want is just to screw the minnows.
What about this one?

A downvote was applied to partially counter earlier whale voles as an experiment to reduce whale domination of voting influence. Not intended to express an opinion on the content nor result in a net reduction of rewards or reputation (automated notice)

Upvoting an automated downvote? What the hell is this?
In fact I would like to have you upvote my posts, at least I have content, maybe not so good but at least it's not only a downvote. And just with your vote I'd make more than I normally do on any post. I hope you understand I'm being sarcastic.
How is he making money?
Well I did give you an example, no reply?
The example you gave me is not a way to make money, its a way to counter the bot that is hidding smooth's vote.
Smooth would make a lot more money through curation rewards but the experiment restrict him from earning any, he is definetely not doing this for the money.
Let's leave it at that we are not going to change our minds, and anyway this is not a fight I do believe everyone should want Steem to grow, I guess we agree on that. So nice chat, regards.
